Where should I go? Cambodia vs. Vietnam?

Hello I'm doing a program where I am visiting many different countries. I will be traveling to Vietnam February 25th through March 2nd. I cannot decide whether to spend my time in Cambodia or in Vietnam.

If i went to Cambodia I would still have a day in Vietnam(I cannot split my time in half, it is an organized program I have to follow if I chose to go to Cambodia). It will also cost me a lot of extra money to visit Cambodia.

Is cambodia worth it? Or should I stay in Vietnam the whole time?

Tough choice. I would forgo Vietnam - even though visually, there is more to see. The north is so pretty with the limestone karsts, sea, mountains, colourful tribal peoples, and elegant and exquisite Hanoi.

But Cambodia has a stranger mental and emotional landscape which makes it a more interesting experience. Try to spend time with as many local people as possible, especially those not involved in the tourist industry and you will feel a generation of children whose souls were taken away from them having lost everything. I have never experienced anything like it on such a scale.

Vietnam seems to have recovered much better from their war than the Cambodians from the genocide.

Further back, Cambodia is an Indianised culture, while Vietnam is Sinocised.

From 25th Feb till 2nd Mar, it's like "Holiday on bus and plane" if you visit both Cambodia and Vietnam. So the best is to choose one destination. Both are worth seeing but it seems that more and more people would like to come back to Vietnam again than back to Cambodia. So i think you know what to choose now

i am Vietnamese and vietnam is a beautiful place when most people visit vietnam they usually stay there for at least a month so there's a lot of things to see there so go to Vietnam!!!

Vietnam is the choice between the two , but yes Cambodia is worth paying the extra money and visiting . This country experienced genocide as horrific as anything known to mankind Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge are a piece of recent history , and the all the evidence is still there . To go to the killing fields and the prison where the tortures took place in Phnom Phen , truly shows how evil man can be and you would not leave unmoved . There is also Angkor Wat in Siem Reap a true wonder of the world .
You may never go back to this part of the world again so i would make every effort to make a slight sojourn , its well worth it !

I like travelling a lot, so I'd say it's worth the money. There's lots of spectacular sites in cambodia too.

I would say defo Vietnam.
There is a lot more choice of activities in Vietnam compared to Cambodia. The beaches are nicer, more history to see and overall nicer people.

I strongly recommend Vietnam. Not because it is my country but there's no much things to do in Cambodia, no sea,no traditional food, bad tourist services.... In addition, if you want to see anything in Cambodia, there are such things in Vietnam too. You can visit My Son Ancient Temples in Quang Nam province in Central Vietnam, about 70km southwest of Da Nang city ; or Ha Tien , a town in the very south of Vietnam. One day never enough for Vietnam but it is for Cambodia. Make a good choice and have a nice trip.

Can I ask you a little outline? I'm interested in traveling to different countries too. What career or major or job are you in? Where do you live ? Please contact me through email long_hoang06@yahoo.com or jklong93@gmail.com. Thanks for any shared information.

Since you have so little time I would stay in Vietnam where there is so much to see and do. You could spend weeks there, so a week is not much time.Cambodia is also interesting, but I would pick Vietnam as the nicer place.Personally I don't think it is worth the travel time to Cambodia as well ............you would lose a day just getting there.Go back there another time.I have visited both.
