District 1 is filled with all kinds of places to shop. Walk East from Ben Thanh towards the opera house and you will pass by Saigon Center and a few other malls, the duty free department store and hundreds of merchants selling anything you can imagine. The Diamond Plaza and the Saigon Square is not far from the Reunification Palace.
If you really want a shopping adventure, you will want to go to Au Dong Market. Au Dong is so big that it makes Ben Thanh Market look like a convenience store. You will want to go with a native Vietnamese, because the vendors there will stick you with Viet Kieu or tourist price.
