Which city is more beautiful Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City? Why?

If you ask me, I would say Hanoi simply because it is beautiful in fall. But the traffic in the capital is bad, and you can see an accident almost every 3 weeks! People in Hanoi are not as nice as in HCMC, and they are a little bit cruel..................
HCMC is not a new city. It is very old but the building and houses are new. They are crowded, yes, but not overcrowded. The population densely somewhere in both city reach the threshold of 40,0000 residence/square kilometer! They said HCMC is the most expensive town in the whole community and I do think it is right.

They both are beautiful ... in their own different ways.

Hanoi has sceneries & history.
HCMC has modern & urban life.

Both places are expensive cuz they're major cities but to me, HCMC seems to have more bargain opportunites.

I hate HCMC,its over populated and polluted,in my eyes it has absolutely nothing to offer,there is not one cultural or historical site to visit,there is a war museam,but being the only place of any interest it can get quite busy.Hanoi on the other hand has loads to see,and around the lake in the evening its very pleasant.

I lived in both cities for a short time. Which one is more beautiful is in the eyes of the beholder. Personally, I think Hanoi is more beautiful, because of one very special landmark - Hoan Kiem Lake. There is nothing in Saigon that even comes close.

Some things are cheaper in Hanoi, while other things are cheaper in Saigon. Overall, Hanoi is a little cheaper to live in than Saigon. Both cities are cheap compared to living in America though.

Hanoi is beautiful, but Saigon is more my personality and the lifestyle I prefer. I would rather live in Saigon than Hanoi.

Fairly crowded? There are places in both cities that will make sardines feel claustrophobic. I was in Saigon during Christmas last year. There is only one other place in the world where I had seen more people in one place and one time. That was New Years even in Las Vegas.

I would vote for Hanoi. And if you like beutiful nature, I do suggest you to go Halong bay & Sapa.

Hanoi is Vietnam's capital and it is old with many centuries cultures. On the other hand, HochiMinh is new city. Both cities have pro and cons. They are all cheap if you spend US dollars there. Traffic in Chiming city is incrediable. If you ride on the rush hours, it's nightmare. Hanoi is the same.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but...

I'd say Hanoi simply because the city is a little better designed and they have a little pond/lake in the middle of it. It's also close to the wonderful Halong Bay!

HCMC is just a big city filled with motorbikes but I personally enjoyed it and thought it was more interesting than Hanoi. I think both cities are very crowded with the edge going to HCMC. Whether they are "overcrowded" will depend on your personal sense and taste. I live in Tokyo if that gives you any guage.

I believe they are both about the same in terms of cost but I was only there as a tourist; I haven't lived there.
