Which is better Saigon or Hanoi?

Which is a better place to live, Saigon or Hanoi?

I wanted to move to Vietnam and look for a teaching job. I have focused my mind to settle in Hanoi since I like what I see in newhanoian website; lots of groups which i can fit-in. I havent known any website of Saigon which has the same details as hanoian.

I know both places offer wide market for teachers. But i want to stay in a place where there are orgs that I can easily join-in and most of all SHOPPING MALLS.

Please enlighten me as I only have few days to decide. I have a friend in Hanoi who told me her friend who is teaching in IBM Saigon will have a maternity leave. She asked me if Im interested of Saigon so I can have the post.

Hope to have an immediate response to this.

Thanks!

:) yellowbelle :)

you should take the oppertunity in sai gon.. if only that it is much more suited to westerners.. more importantly never let such a "locked down " oppertunity pass... you can always change another time, but dont expect oppertunity like this to knock twice.

Shopping Malls > definitely Saigon

Hmmm I've never been to Hanoi, but Saigon is much more civilized than Hanoi (according to my parents and their own personal experiance).
That is just my family's opinion, but it's really up to you to decide where you would like to teach. They're both reat cities and very similar, so really, its just a personal preferance for you.

In Hanoi the temperature is more pleasant where in Saigon it's more humid. But if your friend who will give you the teaching position after she left then Saigon is the place for you.
Don't worry, Saigon is the center place for shopping. You can find almost anything in District One. I think they had open Paragon Shopping Center in Phu My Hung, which is District 7.

Cars/Girls/Billiards/Aquariums
Being Vietnamese and living in both locations.

My mom is from Hanoi and my dad is from or around Saigon.

I say, Saigon is more modern and is getting more trendy. I believe that if you are NOT Vietnamese or are not fluent, Saigon is a more appropriate location because of the some what better distribution of technology and business.

Hainoi is very poor and more country sided. It is for those who love the beauty and untouched essense. It is not for Americans to live or survive. Think of hanoi is for more of the enthusiasts that want to see the real Vietnam and think of Saigon as a more mainstream environment for tourism.

Saigon is very hip and trendy at the epicenter as well as having the plumbing and modern essentials we Americans take for granted.

Example: People in Saigon will have Iphones and the latest technologies as we do in the U.S. In Saigon, you can spend over $1,000 U.S. dollars at a night club. $500 or more dollars for a Johnny Walker Black Lable, $200 or so on food, and the rest for entertainment in Saigon.

I recommend Saigon because it's not a total cultural shock compared to Hanoi.
