Which is the best beach in Vietnam?

My preference for best beach in Vietnam would be either Nha Trang or Da Nang. Da Nang has the best sand and surf and Nha Trang has the best atmosphere.
If you want something remote and less touristy, try the beaches North of the former DMZ. Beaches near Phong Nga and Vien have surf and sand like Da Nang with hardly any development. Accommodations there is dirt cheap even for Vietnam, but don't expect too much. Most of the beach front hotels in those areas were built when Vietnam was a French colony.
If you really want to get away from people, then you want to go to Hai Hau beach in Thai Binh. It's a two hour trip from Ha Noi to Thai Binh and another hour by taxi to Hai Hau beach. Only the locals in Thai Binh know about this beach, which makes it completely untouched by tourists. Why is Hai Hau beach beautiful? That's where I kissed my wife for the first time.

Nhatrang is the best choise, with all the activities even scuba diving. It has some nice islands. If you want quiet and best white sand beach, try Phu Quoc.
