At this time in history Vietnam has no enemies; but many many friends. Anyone that would like to a friend is a friend. It is a great place to visit. The people are so friendly and helpful. I can't wait to return next month to enjoy their hospitality. Cheers.

Currently, Vietnam is at peace and has no enemies except when it comes to soccer (there's an ongoing rivalry between Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand in that sport). Vietnam just acquired 129 new friends by being included into the WTO. There was a major announcement just a couple weeks ago in the relationship between Vietnam and their long time advisory China.

China and Vietnam are going to improve their transportation between the two countries to accommodate the rapidly expanding travel and trade between them. The bridges Hekou-Lao Cai are going to be improved and expanded first.

Obviously, there were times when Vietnam was not at peace, and there were many enemies of Vietnam. China had controlled Vietnam for many centuries and were finally repelled. The Ancient kingdoms of Champa and Khmer had been at war and were defeated by the Vietnamese (which is why Vietnam now includes South Vietnam).

Recent history has seen the Japanese, French and the U.S. as aggressors to Vietnam, who are now good friends. Vietnam invaded and controlled Cambodia shortly after the Vietnam War while controlling Laos at the same time. Such actions didn't help with building a friendly relationship with their neighbors, but they now at peace with each other.

The Soviet Union had been North Vietnam's strongest ally and supporter during the Vietnam War and remained so until the collapse of the Soviet Union. China had been a strong ally of North Vietnam until friendship was brokered between the U.S. and China. China's support to Vietnam was gradually cut off until the Sino-Vietnamese War, when China invaded Vietnam in 1979. This caused a negative relationship between the two countries for years, but things between them are patched up now.

Vietnam has realized peace for over 25 years. Former enemies are now friends. Vietnam's former aggressors are now their strongest economic trade partners. Let's hope that the rest of the world can see that it's better to make friends than to make enemies.

China and the US are two countries that are all over vietnam when it comes to trade, but though Vietnam and China have been enemies since ancient history, there starting to get along, and vietnam is finally at peace, for thousands of years of war

Who wants to know
Vietnamese people are the most forgiving people in the world. Despite so many wars in the past that Vietnam had to face including American, French, Japanese, and Chinese, Vietnam do not consider any countries as their enemies. One thing about Vietnamese people is that if anyone try to invade the country, they would do anything to kick them out but as long as everyone leaves them alone, they'll more than happy to be their friends. They like to live in harmony and also like to be left alone.

Allies? Anyone can be friends with Vietnam if they play by the rules. It's hard to influence Vietnamese people.

I am a friend of Vietnam, my (viet) wife and children own land there so I guess I am an ally (no-one is going to mess with my home).
The enemies of Vietnam are the companies (and the governments that back them) that are looking to turn the Viet people into dollar a day wage slaves.
