Just wondering...

Why are Vietnamese guys so NOT romantic?!?!?

I've dated several Viet guys and cannot understand why they always have problems sharing their feelings and thoughts. How the heck do they supposed that girls will know how they feel? It's like the pride thing and the "I-can-take-care-of-my-own-problems" mentality. Then when it comes to doing something nice and romantic, it's like that word "romantic" doesn't even exist in their dictionary. BTW, I'm in my early 20's, so maybe I haven't met all you sensitive Vietnamese guys out there. I could be wrong, but I'm not trying to generalize. =)

Maybe the problem is not with these "several guys" but with the one they have been dating ;-). Just a piece of advice, but "romantic" is not a guy/girl thing but rather a give-and-take thing in a relationship. So in this case instead of asking why these guys weren't so romantic, ask yourself if you have been romantic to any of them lately. The moment you give it a try, maybe one of these next guys might return the favor.

Best wish with your dating life :-).

Im Viet and i also live in the USA

i dno about u but im pretty darn romantic

were the guys u dating fobs?

Ray
My ex was extremely romantic but also secret.
Thats not fair to say VN guys are not romantic, its just the guys you met were not romantic ones.
One reason you can get them be more open and romantic is to suggest or help them out w that! Some people dont do what they're supposed to do because they dont know how to do that.
SOme guys like you said often have too much pride and/or were taught to be like that, or they just looked at the ways their family members acted ( I call that old-fashion, no ofense, its just a typical personality of Western culture to me).

Well the problem is, ARE YOU VIETNAMESE?!

I am. So just ask them do you love me?

I'm not sure if that case is an easy one to find out.

the robber
would love to see you, i am Vietnamese guy and extremely romantic. :P. do you live in Sydney, Australia?
BTW, the reason of Vietnamese guys normally don't want to share their thinkings,or talking much because they are afraid of being thought as arrogant, showing up, talkative... or sumthing like that.
Just like me, I could sit there quietly and happy to listen to my ex-girlfriend for hours.

I'm really understand your case. But your conclusion seems went wrong to me. Vietnamese culture is not always to share our thoughts/feelings all the time, it's our culture and not relating to Romantic as you said. You will never hear a husband talks to his wife that how deeply he loves here or whisper with his kiddies that how sweet he loves them, but he will always ready to take care for them without any words. That's 'sacrifice'.

because of the culture i suppose. like you say, pride.
they hardly give too many compliments even those words are true and their girlfriends love hearing that. they are afraid of showing their deepest emotions, they don't want you to know that they adore you or things like that.

You're NOT trying to generalize?
I'm afraid that you're wrong. Perhaps, you haven't met a sensitive Vietnamese guy out there yet. We Vietnamese men are just as romantic & as any other gentlemen of any ethnic groups. Modestly speaking, I dare say that we Vietnamese are very "gallant".
I know some Vietnamese who came to the US at young age, they always go Dutch at the restaurants with their dates - a total faux pas to most Vietnamese guys in growing up in Vietnam.
I hope you'll find someone who'll love, adore & caress you like no others. Someone who's dreamt of you & longed for you. Someone who's totally romantic to you.

***By the way, I was born in Saigon, growing up there & have been back as many times. I met my wife there. Surprisingly, this is the 1st time both my wife & I have heard of such a thing:
"...men often won't even eat in the same room or make the women sit on the floor."...!!!???

I fought there and know many guys from there. They still view women as property,a status symbol.Women are not their equals, they are to sumit and mind!

dani ng
I think you not yet meet the right man.Not all of Vietnamese guys .

vibal
I am a Filipino and Asian too. I dislike girls who are show-off, domineering and asks unimportant questions.

mcbrian2000
Because of their culture.
historically there men have dominated and for a man to try to impress a woman is out of the question. Women and marriage was based on families accepting an arrangement.
