Why are women in Vietnam only interested in foreign men with money?

I think your assumptions are wrong - though not completely. I am a married male living in VN.

I know VN ladies who have married foreigners who are not rich. Some men probably have more money, or at least the potential for eventually earning more money, than the average Vietnamese man - but maybe not!

I know three very nice, older single ladies, one of whom is divorced, two who are widows. I know they would like to find husbands - and I know at least 2 of the 3 would consider a foreigner. But, they are living their lives as normal, not out there hunting foreigners.

I am pretty comfortable in saying that I suspect I treat my Vietnamese lady friends much differently than they are used to being treated by Vietnamese men, including their husbands - and I think they really appreciate it. This is just being friends, no dating, no courting, no aspirations for anything other than being friends - I am married already (sigh ;^). I suspect that other foreign men do the same, and VN ladies (single or married!) probably appreciate that too.

Now breaking up marriages - there are lots of possible factors there. If a marriage falls apart, whose fault is that? An outsider, or the married couple? If the marriage is on auto-pilot??? If the passion is gone, and it is only economic ties are not????

I saw a Chris Rock (American comedian) monologue on Monica L., Bill and Hillary Clinton. I won't go into the details, but he laid out another possible cause.

Closing point - my wife once mentioned that the single foreign women she knew were really upset, because they couldn't compete with the Vietnamese women - unattached single guys were few and far between! I know a single Brit guy who has been here for a while and says he has no interest in VN ladies because they are so straight-laced and "untouchable" until married.

That's just your opinion but there are so many Vietnamese women married Vietnamese men too. Not all Vietnamese women are interested in foreign men. I know none of us sisters married any foreign men. Don't just generalize. My nephew's wife is Vietnamese born and raised. She never had any intention to marry anyone else but Vietnamese men. Not because the men who marry Vietnamese women doesn't mean they all have money.

I think your question is mostly untrue. My wife is from Hue and her family has more money and mine. We have been married for 12 years and have a wonderful life in the US. What I have seen is US men are looking for faithful and a lasting marriage. Beautiful Intelligent Vietnamese Ladies fit this. I have 3 friends also married to Vietnamese ladies and all are happy and it wasn't money the deciding factor. Cheers C

Simple answer is, my friend Paul said, not everyone marries for love.

However, you have to separate out the number of marriages that break-up because they don't work, from the marriages that end for self interest.

i heard my parents tlking about this the other day (i'm viet) well its because vietnam is a poor country and many people (woman/girls) would like to go live and start a better life in another country (vietnam is run by communist and have poor(ish) lifestyle) such as australia,america..etc.etc. and sometimes when foriegn men come the women marry the men so they can travel to wherever the men live and start a life there... they usually break up their marriages after a while since they didn't marry bcause they loved the men .. only to get into their country...and since now that they 'have' married the men..they are allowed to stay in that country and no longer need to stay married to the men...
but apparently australia is changing the laws so that this won't happen alot...something about having to stay married for at least 2 years or else they get sent back to vietnam...

To add some balance - I am a foreign man married to a Vietnamese lady. She certainly did not marry me for money as I don't have any, but we have been very happy for 6 years.

It's societal issues like: Wealth, opportunity and often scams because these wealthier men are 'buying' them for their own pleasure. If communism was rid from Vietnam - the citizens would be safer.

Personally I'm very sad about those kind of things .A real man shouldn't take advantage against women not only Vietnamese women but also all of the woman around the world.Just think of your mother your sister and female family members.Would you like them also to suffer those kind of inhuman acts?I don't think so.All of those men are all scumbags all sorts of gaypigs and nuts.They are all pest in our society.They should be punished very well.If not here, in HELL.

i am approached all the time to set vietnamese woman up w/ my american friends "lam may", "match make" [ i really dont have any?!??!, but...] but these are poor families and they see it as an opportunity to"improve" their lives... i try to explain life in america in many ways is far worse than life in vn.. but for financially desparate people that philosophy doesnt hold water.. and the truth is i know a number a viet women who married western men, now they live out of the country and send money home and HAVE built bigger homes for their families, have send younger sibling to school.. and live happy lives w/ their new husbands.. they are desperate and are willing to sacrifice everything for family.. in many ways it is quite noble...[ not the breaking up marriges of others part.. but i've not seen that..]

It's the other way around.
Foreign men seek Vietnamese Women.
VN women are very loyal to their family and will never do anything against their loved one. Plus, foreign men like VN women cooking. :) Also they are the best mother in the world.
When you said there are a lot of divorce cases because some of those women paid the people to married them so they can get out of VN and seek a good future so they can send MONEY home.

Vietnamese women are interested in Vietnamese men, but SOME of the people feel that there are greater opportunities for them and that they would be happier in other countries. Women who feel this way will then try to find a foreigner who will take them out of their nation.

Also, women in Vietnam (and all of Southeast Asia) are often exploited by being tricked or kidnapped to sell as sexual slaves or mail-order brides. These women are typically purchased by disgusting, perverted men in rich nations (like Australia) who will marry them after buying them. These men are often old AND they can't find women in their own countries who want them, so they find women in poor nations to exploit.

Honestly, I feel bad for these women who feel the need to do this or are tricked into doing it.
