Why did people immigrate to Vietnam ? ?
Why did people immigrate I can't find it online or on Y!A's so please help me !
I believe your previous answers have defined living and immigrating as the same thing. Personally, I believe living in Vietnam and immigrating to the country are significantly different. That in mind, my answer is going to be significantly different.
Many of the recent immigration to Vietnam are from Cambodia, Hong Kong, the Philippines and Thailand. These are Viet or Viet descendants who left Vietnam during the 70’s and 80’s and refugee in other countries. Many are returning to Vietnam due to more favorable political and economic conditions.
In the far north, you will find Hmong immigrating from Laos. There is an ongoing civil war in the upper Northeast region of Laos. Many of the Hmong tribes in that area are persecuted or caught in the middle of an attempt by a political faction that has been trying overthrow the communist Lao government since the Vietnam War ended. Most of the Hmong immigrations go unchecked as the Hmong usually live nomadic outside of modern society.
You will find dozens of societies, such as the Champa and Khmer, who have wandered in and out of Vietnam throughout it’s history. Their reasons for immigrating to Vietnam vary between the societies.
In my opinion, the most ironic and interesting immigration to Vietnam were among the Chinese. This is ironic because of the centuries of fighting between the Chinese and Vietnamese. Many thousands of Chinese fled China to Northern Vietnam and especially around Hanoi during China’s communist revolution. Most all continued their journey South when North Vietnam became communist. They made their way to Saigon and settled mostly in the Cho Lon district. The communists made an ill-fated attempt to drive the Chinese out of Cho Lon and the rest of Vietnam. Many did leave, but many more stayed and turned Cho Lon into one of the largest ethnic Chinese communities outside of China.
There will likely be more widespread immigration to Vietnam as the country’s economy and society rapidly advances. As other mention, Vietnam has become a choice to place to live for many reasons.

Personally, I immigrated for financial and health reasons. Its cheaper to live in Vietnam and Stress levels are definitely less than the states.
Most of my Xpat friends here are concerned with the lower cost of living. The country is beautiful and the people are very nice. I think that its just a better all around life style in Vietnam.

cost of living is really cheap so you can easily retire in vietnam and not worry about taxes and property tax and what not. you can live good off from a dollar. i mean in the usa you can't survive off 100 bucks a month but in vietnam that can last you for months so why not live where everything is cheaper?
