Why is there no McDonalds in Vietnam?

McDonalds is the first fastfood Company that wanted to enter VN, about frist of 90s, but at that time They seem not find a suitable partners at VN ( with the news business forms as franchising,license...) so they postponed. Later, KFC and Lotteria penetrated in VN when VN opened the market.Until now, when KFC and Lotteria, and Jolibe recently have settled down, i think its so hard for MC Donalds ( excepts they have a break thru strategies )

They don't have the goverments permission to open any and I hope they don't. To much good food here with out bringing in junk food. Cheers.

no mcdonal in Bhutan my contry. we Bhuddist don want it. also we have no traffic lite. we vote for it. Mcdonal not happy for us or Vietnam. thank you

Fast food is good for busy people like American or other developed countries. But in Vietnam, people are not very busy now, so they have many time to have meals. Otherwise, Vietnamese people don't like fastfood much

I think Viets prefer chicken over beef but now with the bird flu, maybe they go for tofu.

Vietnam's take is different. The nation is hungry for its share of global prosperity but it's taking its time to let in Western cultural icons. A McDonald's, 7-Eleven on every corner would truly scar what's Vietnamese. It isn't an anti-Western view, just a sense that Vietnam should remain, well, Vietnamese as it opens to a curious world. Perhaps now that they have been accepted into the WTO, you might be able to enjoy a BigMac in downtown Hanoi; or even take out a Starbucks Ice Coffee Latte.

I am here in Vietnam, exactly in Saigon. The reason ? Maybe have to ask the Owner. It seems to me that thier director ( or onwer / president ) visited Vietnam fews years ago. Maybe they are preparing for installing their network and why not tomorrow or next month or next year. You don't know, we don't know, but they surely know (?)

We have got here KFC, Loteria, Pizza Hut ... fastfood delivery within 15 minutes. Their resto is fully in the evenings, specially in weekend.

I can not say that Vietnamese people likes fastfood or not, but I found regular the new opening branch of KFC, Loteria, Pizza Hut ... anywhere

You dun know that McDonalds franchisee regulation and setting up costs is much higher than KFC and others. Do u?

im not sure why...i've been to vietnam but i've never seen any either...i know thailand has more of the fast food restaurants we're use to like pizza hut and mcdonalds. maybe its because thailand is a more tourist friendly country than vietnam and thus would have more of the restaurants we're use to ...hopefully this helps

personally i don't like McDonalds entering Vietnamese market ->more fat kids and tourists won't touch traditional street foods anymore.
