I doubt it will happen in the next few generations.

Although there are "democratic elections" at lower levels of government, you still need to be a Communist Party member to run for government. I cannot see this requirement changing in the near future.

As for senior levels of government, appointments are assigned from senior levels of the Communist party membership.

I doubt very much if the central government would allow an opposition party as any group that has political leaning or aspirations is quickly closed down.

Interestingly, the younger generation of Vietnam appears very apolitical which may be the first stages of a different form of government in Vietnam.

I agree with GM but being communist is quite profitable. While it's true that younger Vietnamese are apolitical, Communist officials are rearing their children to take over in the future. Only these kids have access to the best schools money can buy in Western countries.

agree with ng a, it's a line of prosperity if you're born in a communist family, your dad is a well-known, high rank in the party. You don't have to do jack, your life is set. Usually the international student that got to U.S and study are the children of the party. I doubt communist will end. Unless some revolution begin and wipe out communism and make vietnam a better place otherwise doubt it. I missed Vietnam too but the condition there is bad, I'll come for a visit once communism is no more.
